The Story of Your Birth

Dear Cason,
I am sure one day you will want to know the story of your birth. It was the best day of our life. It all started on Nov. 16 your due date. NOTHING happened! You were very comfortable in my belly. Too comfortable if you ask me! Nov.16 was a Sunday. Your daddy and I slept late and went to the mall in the afternoon. We had a nice afternoon walking around and enjoying the unseasonably warm weather. We ate hamburgers and got ice cream at Cold Stone. We spent the last evening as a childless couple and got ready for your arrival. The next day, Nov. 17, your Grandad and BeBe came to be with us. We went to Jason's Deli to eat lunch and then went to Target to buy a crock-pot. During all of this I kept hoping that you would decide to come but no such luck. At 4:00 your daddy and I went to see my doctor. He told me that you were still VERY comfortable and he would recommend helping you come into this world. I wasn't sure about that so we had a sonogram to see how much you weighed. They estimated that you were already 8 to 8 1/2 pounds! I didn't want you to get any bigger so I decided to be induced. We had a couple of hours before I had to go to the hospital so your daddy and I met your Gradad, BeBe, Aunt Allison, and Uncle Brian at the Galleria. We shopped for a while and then ate at The Grand Lux Cafe. While at the mall I started to have a lot of pain and I got very nervous. We tried to go find some ice cream but by that time I was very uncomfortable and scared. Your daddy and I decided to go to the hospital. We got there at 8:00 and the nurse told me that I was already having contractions. They started because of my exam at the doctors office. Because I was having contractions they only gave my half of the medicine that got my body ready for you to come. The nurse then gave me some medicine to help me sleep, your daddy and I prayed that you would come quickly and be healthy, and then we went to sleep. The next morning, Nov. 18, the nurse gave me Pitocin to help my body have more contractions. Nothing happened for a long time. Your Grandad, BeBe, and Aunt Allison came to the hospital to make sure they were there when you came. My doctor came and broke my water to hurry you along. Around noon my contractions really started to hurt. At 2:00 I got my epidural and started to feel much better. After a while my contractions started to get further and further a part. By early evening they had all but stoped. About this time I started to feel very sick. This went on for a couple of hours and I was absolutely miserable. My doctor had already talked about the possibility of a c-section but I didn't want to have one. He left to go get dinner and during that time I got really sick at my stomach. The nurse took my temperature and found out that I had a fever. It was decided then that I would have a c-section. I was diagnosed with dysfunctional labor. Around 10:00 they took me to the operating room and started to get my ready for your birth. Your daddy came in and set beside me. I was so scared for him because he doesn't handle blood very well. I don't remember much about the operation but I do remember telling the doctors that I thought your daddy was going to pass out. I also remember the doctor and your dad talking about football. I remember the nurse telling me that you were about to come into this world. At 10:12 they held you up for your daddy and I to see. My heart skipped a beat and I couldn't believe that you were actually here. Your were healthy and perfect. You weighed 8 pounds and 6 ounces. You had a head full of dark hair and still do! We spent the next 4 days in the hospital getting to know each other. Then your daddy and I took you home. November 18th was the start to the best year of my life. I created this blog for you so you can look at it one day and learn what you were like as a baby. It is also for me, your daddy, and the rest of your family and friends to keep up with how much you are growing and changing. I love you little boy and I hope you enjoy these stories of your life.

Love, Mommy

1st Halloween

This was Cason's first Halloween and it was a blast. I know he is too young to appreciate it, it was for Toby and I, and the grandparents!
We kicked off Halloween by going to our church's fall festival. Cason was VERY unsure about the whole thing. He had a death grip on Toby or I the entire time.

Cason, Beau, and Reid

Cason was TERRIFIED of the llama at first but eventually warmed up to him a little.

On Halloween Day BeBe, Grandad, and Great Geema came to visit. Uncle Brian, Aunt Allison and Reid also spent the day with us. In the early evening we went trick-or-treating to a couple of houses in our neighborhood.

T Minus 30 Days and Counting

Yup, our little baby is turning 1 in just 30 days! Every day I keep telling him, "I remember this time last year you were in my belly and we couldn't wait for you to be here." This time last year we had our last baby shower. This time last year I couldn't sleep (oh wait, I still can't). This time last year we were washing baby clothes and making final preparations to the nursery. This time last year we packed bags to go to the hospital. This time last year I was driving over to Plano Presby 2-3 times a month for appointments. This time last year I was reading anything I could get my hands on to prepare me for the birth of our little man.
Enough of last year, this is what is happening NOW. Cason turned 11 months old yesterday. He is full of energy and love. He is walking everywhere now. We can't keep him contained in 1 room anymore. He is learning to run too! He can stand up without pulling himself up on something. He can say dada and is working on saying mama. Cason has 4 teeth and has learned to clap. He loves to scream at the top of his lungs too! Toby and I are having a hard time introducing him to solid foods. He wants nothing to do with them. I keep telling him he is going to be really embarrassed when he goes to Kindergarten eating baby food, but he won't listen to me.

10 Months and Walking

Oh my! Things have been busy around here. And by busy I mean that we have 1 very busy little boy. Cason turned 10 months old on Fri. I think that he is starting to look more and more like a little boy and less like a baby. Getting his 10 month picture was VERY difficult this time. It took 2 of us and this is all we could get. He was too busy playing :).

Cason is WALKING!!!! He started our taking a couple of steps here and there but now he can walk half way across our living room. He could probably walk further than that but he thinks crawling is faster. Toby said he looks like a zombie because he walks with his arms straight out.

When Cason wants to get somewhere REALLY fast he puts his head down and crawls as fast as he can. I think he is trying to be more aerodynamic. He has also started being a little mischievous. He knows he is not allowed to go into the office and he will start crawling down the hall, turn around, smile at us, and take off into the office giggling all the way.

Walking! Sort of.....

Cason has officially been taking steps! He has been taking around 3 or 4 steps at a time for about a week now. His first steps were on August 21. Toby saw him do it several times before I did. I can't believe that our little stinker is almost walking. He's only 9 months! I keep telling him to not be in a hurry but he's a little hard headed like that. I don't have any pictures yet but as soon as I do I will post them. Here are some other fun pictures!

Playing in Beau's car. This may be our next big purchase. He loved it!

I LOVE this picture.

We had family pictures taken this weekend. I can't wait to see how they turned out! Here are Cason and Reid playing in the grass.

Playing in the laundry basket.

This picture cracks me up because this is what we see when we get Cason out of bed in the morning or at nap time. He grabs as many paci's as he can and looks so proud of himself. So CUTE!
